Does the fridge work as efficiently on very hot days?

I live in El Paso, Texas and I've noticed that when it's really hot, I mean like over 100 degrees, my fridge seems to work less efficiently.
Is this what is actually happening or am I just so hot that the fridge never feels cool? I'm so confused because it's not like we don't have air conditioning on in the house or anything but for some reason it doesn't seem as cool.
I would really appreciate a response from anyone that might have a good idea. I am trying to decide if it's my fridge that has a problem or if the heat is the issue.
