I am looking for a french door style, water/ice in the door, black with a textured front finish. Is there such a refrigerator made? I don't like fingerprints!

5 stars for subject matter, but less than zero for manuf. who won’t listen/give what customers want!
by: Guitarzan

September 2021 and by reading all the comments dating back 11 years, I have decided that the manufacturers give us what makes them the most profit. In that 11 years, A) the price seems to have almost doubled, B) the product value has not doubled. You have to assume that the textured finish we all want, is an added cost that they all have eliminated by only offering smooth, stainless steel finishes that are not powder coated and scratch from just wiping away smudges and fingerprints. This is called "planned obsolesence". Those little scratches add up and sooner rather than later we have to replace with another new, more expensive unit. Seems that the new ones don’t even last as long as those "back in the day" kind that worked for 20+ years. I was told, a couple of washing machines ago, that "they don’t even make them to last as long as your mothers’ machine." And, if you want to keep your older, but "looking great without scratches" refigerator, but just need to repair or replace any of the parts, you will have an A-HA moment when you find that manuacturers don’t carry parts for an "obsolete" & "archaic" ‘fridge from back in the olden days……..and you are forced to buy whatever they are offering. And so, I too will have to "settle", but I do feel better now that I have gotten my "ya-ya’s" out with this rant!

Looking for Black Textured French Door Refrig. NEW
by: Cindy

WOW! I'm not the only one very frustrated. We have just updated our kitchen with granite countertops and new fixtures. We cannot complete our new "look" without a new refrigerator.

There's the problem. We currently have an almond textured Whirlpool side by side. It's at least 20 years old. We've looked for a black textured French Door refrigerator. None to be found.

Why are there none? Manufacturerers put texture on the sides. Why? The front is where fingerprints show. The "fingerprint resistant" ones are a joke. (We have a small one.)
Manufacturers WAKE UP! Black textured on front, please!

Looking for textured front too
by: Anonymous

I have a side by side which I hate and will not last much longer but I love the textured style which it is but hate a side by side - I may even resort to buying the old style fridge with freezer on top as I think they still have a few old ones out there somewhere that are textured . I really really wanted a textured front and sides French door like all the others posted on here. Unbelievable they put it on sides and panels on fronts are different - looks cheap and stupid to me - happy I am not the only one looking for textured

Textured Gloss Finish NEW
by: Anonymous

I have looked for a textured finish on a
french door refrigerator. I have not found anything. I will NOT buy the stainless steal nor any of the finger resistant finishes that are available on the french door refrigerators. Have you scratched one? Give a little scratch with your finger nail to see what I mean. It is a coating and peels. How shabby!! Who designed this junk?? Please bring back the gloss textured finish on the front as well as the sides. It's beautiful and lasts. Black, white, dark grey, cream . . .

I too want a textured black French door fridge! NEW
by: Bev A

My current black French door fridge is 10 years old and starting to have a few problems. (The fridge I had in the house before this one lasted 25 years but, let's face it, they just don't make appliances to last the way they used to anymore!) I know its only a matter of time before I have to get a replacement.

I really like the convenience of my French door fridge but I have to admit, it has been a major PITA to keep the front looking clean, even without small kids leaving fingerprints everywhere! And, despite all care, the glossy front has a few noticeable dings and scratches while the textured sides still look great.

So, when I have to replace my fridge, I really WANT to find a black French door fridge with a textured finish all over rather than just on the sides. If anyone finds any manufacturer making textured black French door fridges, please post!

In fact, when the rest of appliances need to be replaced (stove, MW, dishwasher, washer/dryer) I'm going to be looking for replacements with a textured black surface.

I honestly don't care what the designers say is "in" or what they say is "dated." I buy what I like...assuming it is being made! Black goes with everything and textured surfaces on appliances just make sense. So why manufacturers aren't making textured black appliances is beyond me!

Black textured refrigerator NEW
by: Sandy

I purchased a side by side black textured refrigerator several months ago. It's a Hotpoint made by General Electric. I ordered it through Lowe's (or Home Depot?). Hotpoint is a very old name in this country and very well known in England. Frigidaire makes one too. I love the textured finish. Doesn't show fingerprints. I'm very pleased with the Hotpoint. The ice cube maker is great! I did extensive research for a textured finish. I wanted a French door but not made in a texture. The Hotpoint would probably be too small
for a family of four.

I found two refrigerators with textured finish!
by: Sandy

I found a black textured refrigerator at Home Depot, Thornton, CO. The Brand is Hotpoint made by GE. It comes in white textured too and it is 25.4 cu. ft. I'm having it delivered tomorrow. Can't tell you anything about quality since I haven't used it yet! It is a side by side I wanted a french door but will settle for side by side to get texture. It cost $900.00. I purchased the 5-year extended protection plan for $150.00. I would have purchased the extended plan with any appliance I bought since according to reviews, they ALL have problems. Frigidaire also makes a side by side with the textured finish. If Home Depot doesn't have it on the floor, they can order it.

Textured black fridge
by: Anonymous

So glad others are zooming in on this issue!! I have a textured black s/s GE which I love but it is getting really old. Have been scrolling for days to find another; you are all SO,SO right about the manufactures! One can only hope they go down the tubes with their stainless steel and shiny black which shows everything! Hate to say this, but I suspect that all the designers are MEN!; women would never, ever think of what they are now putting out for their kitchens. Does anyone ever read these comments???

Why aren't they making textured fronts on fridges anymore??
by: Anonymous

I love my GE fridge's textured front but we have been looking for another as it is very basic. I am looking for a black one but even they are hard to find and they do not have textured fronts. They have textured sides...why not fronts! Not sure I will buy another until they do.

Frig designers are nuts
by: Anonymous

I have a textured black french door refrigerator...I love it. I actually have to remember to wash it down...doesn't show anything!

I think the manufacturers are going to realize that consumers are not stupid...the new shiny black appliances are as bad as stainless steel for fingerprints...My fridge is 7 years old. I hope it lasts long enough for the manufacturers to come to their senses!

Kenmore French Door Shiny Finish
by: Anonymous

My daughter might be upset w/me for posting, but she has this huge French door w/bottom pull out freezer. It's the shiny black finish as don't make a textured. The door has got so scratched by the handles from every day use and some scratches on the bottom, and not sure how that happened.

This happened almost immediately and I told her to contact store where bought, but she didn't. Am sure it's too late now. Has to be going on 2 years old.

Personally, I don't even like the shiny finish compared to my textured.

Why isn't there a modern, textured black fridge?
by: Anonymous

Why, oh why, hasn't a manufacturer made a modern, textured black refrigerator?

Who wants shiny black, (like my microwave) that shows every finger print?

A nice bottom freezer fridge would be nice. Come on GE, LG, Samsung, etc....let's get on the ball. Not everyone wants a commercial style, (stainless steel) kitchen.

French door refrigerator with a black finish
by: Anonymous

Just purchased a Samsung, black, french door, counter depth refrigerator for almost $3,000.

Was told it was the top of the line. It arrived with scratches all over the ice dispenser area and some scratches on the both of the upper doors. The retailer is willing to replace the doors or let me trade for a stainless steel.

I am quite leery of the black finish since it arrived in such bad shape. Can't imagine what it will look like in a year or two.

The Mfgs. Rep has indicated it is very durable, of course! Yet, I just purchased a new dishwasher in black and have an older stove and microwave in black.

Wanted a textured black from the start but could not find. Most of these posts are older, has anyone recently found a textured refrigerator meeting these specifications?

I settled, but like my choice
by: Anonymous

The only fridge I could find with textured black doors in the size I wanted was from Amana.

I didn't like the interior as the plastic bins looked cheap/cheesy. I settled for the Samsung french door and honestly love it.

It is huge and just fits into the space (I actually could have gotten taller but forgot what I had measured). I have so many kids notices and pictures on the front of it that if I had fingerprints on it, no one would notice...

I ended up with a stainless LG refrigerator. I've had it since a little before Thanksgiving and I actually like it very much. The fingerprint issue is taken care of once a week, but then, I don't have small children living at home all the time anymore either.

Good luck all!

Black Textured French Door Fridge

Hello,

This is just amazing. We are all looking for the same thing. I have been unsuccessful with Sears and Ferguson etc.

What is wrong with these manufacturers out there.

I am thankful to find advice and tips and listings. Thanks HeidiPro

However, I want the door ice and water as well.

Sorry for the confusion...
by: HeidiPro

Julie,

I guess the biggest question I have here has more to do with why are you concerned about it not looking updated? Do you plan on selling your home in the near future? Or are you worried about what others coming into your home might think?

The reason why I am asking is YOU need to love your new refrigerator if you plan on using it for an extended period of time. If not then it is always a good idea to think toward what your perspective buyer might want.

As for the "faux" stainless finish, I've actually owned a refrigerator that was faux stainless and had it in a kitchen with other actual stainless appliances. The only way that I knew that it wasn't stainless was by looking at the other appliances which made it easier to tell.

I currently have a real stainless refrigerator and while I love the look of my new fridge it is a great deal more time to clean, harder to keep clean and I can't put pictures or magnets up on it which I do miss.

This is really a personal thing that you'll have to weigh based on how long you plan to live in this home. Though currently the trend really is toward a stainless look.

I think I decided...
by: Anonymous

Sorry I didn't wait for any comments... my gut feeling is to go with what I like/want and to heck with what other people might think of my fridge.

I personally like the look of the textured front and a french door style is not dated even if someone might think the textured finish is.

Anyone with kids might agree that function far outweighs the fashion!

does it need to match?
by: Anonymous

Me again... still looking for the ultimate fridge.

Question for you both... the house we're buying has a very dark (black mixed) granite kitchen countertop with light cabinets. The dishwasher, microwave and stove are all black. Would it look terrible to then throw in a stainless (faux?) fridge?

Very nervous that kind of investment would not look right and I couldn't change my mind...

Something to consider...
by: HeidiPro

Julie,

I hear you across the board regarding it looking dated. If you are worried about the huge amount of maintenance then take a look at all of the faux stainless refrigerators out there.

They typically look stainless but don't fingerprint. Really much easier to maintain with the same kind of look.

Here's a page with more info on them: Stainless Steel Refrigerators

Black French Door Refrigerator
by: Julie

Anonymous,

I haven't decided on one yet. I was told by a salesperson that the textured front may be considered "dated".

Not that I want to sell, but a refrigerator is a huge investment-our current one is 20 years old and still doing well-and I don't want to buy something that is "dated" when I know I'll have to live with it for 20-plus years. I watch "House Hunters" on television, and it's interesting to hear what buyers look for. Of course "updated" is stainless steel and the buyers are often really young with no experience with upkeeping this "new" stainless steel look.

I'm hoping textured black will quickly come into "fashion". :)

Please let me know if you find/have thoughts/ideas for me too.

What was the decision
by: Anonymous

Julie,

Which one did you settle on? I am in the same boat as you - do NOT like the flat black - want the textured french door... and one that will fix nicely in a 36x72" space.

Thank you...but..
by: Julie

But are they a "textured" finish? Many black finishes come in a glossy black, which is going to have the same problem as the stainless steel finish. Many black refrigerator specks say "black", then when you get the details, they are "smooth black" or "glossy black".

Thank you so much for your help!

I don't like fingerprints either!
by: HeidiPro

Julie,

I can completely relate on the fingerprint front -- we moved into a place with all stainless appliances and I am forever wiping them off! I also miss being able to put magnets on it.

As for a french door refrigerator with a black finish, yes they definitely do still make them. We have reviewed a handful of them on our french door refrigerator reviews page. Check out the models in Amana, Maytag, KitchenAid and Whirlpool.
