Frigidaire Compact Refrigerator (model FRT045GB) - Only One Year Old and Stopped Working!!

We purchased our Frigidaire compact refrigerator, paying almost $300.00 for it, expecting it would be a better quality appliance for us. Sadly, it is not working at all, it stopped very suddenly, and we lost all our food in it.


I called customer service, but apparently there is no repair option. Since we did not purchase the extended warranty - we have been assured there is not any further responsibility by Frigidaire for this. Extended warranties are a joke for the money.

We have a Danby model, quite similar to this one, that we have had over 10 years without any need for concern about performance. It is a similar refrigerator and we did not purchase an extended warranty. It has outperformed this brand 10 times.

Please be cautioned before spending your hard earned money about the poor quality products from Frigidaire appliances.

The defrost timer is normally the problem.
The part is available on EBAY, 26.00.
The part number is DBYC903BL, or DBYC1003BL.

I have had mine less than a year. The knob broke off and had a hell of a time trying to turn it. Stopped working like it froze up. Unplugged it and plugged it back. Started to work. Had to do this too many times. Finally I unscrewed the white box and forced it to stop freezing. Lost all my food. Not working at all. I thought it was me until I read all the negative reviews. Hate to throw it out but read how after replacing the parts it still doesn't work. No one to complain to and what a waste of money. Beware!!!

It (froze up dead) had an intermittent defrost problem. plug and play defrost timer $70, rewire connector to use $10 timer. 2 years runnin' great.

Ours lasted 3 yrs or so and started blowing warm air. Frigidaire.....not......Hotaire......yup. I think we will just get a full size one.

After coming here in my research of this model now I see what the problem is. I work at a motel where just 3 years ago my boss bought over 100 of these. Now they keep having to be defrosted over and over again and in some out completely and they replaced the timer defroster or whatever its called. Sounds like Frigidaire has ripped everyone off to me. So that explains it.

Had mine for a less than a year... would turn the knob in the white box in the back and it would kick on.. then hat stopped working... so unplugged it for a few days and it worked for awhile.. but now not working again... kicking it to the curb...

 Died at 3.5 years

So upset that this product only lasted 3.5 years. Really needed to last 8 years to get all children thru college. I have a refrigerator that is 23 years old and one that is 11 years old that are both going strong. This was a gift so may look at repair, but will never buy Frigidaire brand after this happened.

My Frigidaire, Model FRT045GB, in my Mobile Home just went out after 5yrs......I needed a smaller size to fit the space where an old propane/electric refrigerator was located. Can't see spending this kind of money on a mini....I have 2 full size ref. in my home that have been running non stop for 10+ years. The ref. at the trailer is "off" from Nov. 15 through April 15th.......Very porr product based on what I'm reading.......

I manage an apt. complex and we bought this unit for one of our studios...Complete pain and waste of money...Have to go look for another brand and spend more money needlessly.

2 years old and the compressor is already out. I'm setting it out for the trash man. The cost of the compressor is more than I paid for the fridge. Typical frididaire product.

Absolutely similar problems with this unit. It would quit and I'd unplug. Repeat the cycle, ruin food. Took it to a repair man and he had it for 3 weeks and it worked fine for him. Now it quit about 3 weeks ago,, cool in the freezer, refrig. not cool. I am trying one more thing letting it sit and fully defrost for a couple of days and try one more time but expecting the same results in a couple of week.
The lack of parts available and assumed disposibility is mose upsetting. I, too, will stay a way from this brand.

p.s. I got on here hoping for some answers!

Ditto on all of the comments posted. My FRT045GB stopped working after a few months, only warranteed for 3 months, so what a waste. Never again!

I heard Frigidaire has low end products, and should have listened!

Wow! This model must certainly have a defect. We got one for a mother-in-law suite and just over a year it quits working. The interior light comes on, but the fan does not blow and it does not cool. I turn the plastic screw to what I think is the timer box and the unit started to work again, but it only lasted one day. It appears that the timer box is of poor quality.

I also have had the same problem after having it a little over a year. It shopped working and I found the freezer temp at 42. I moved the temp. controls and nothing. Power to it was ok. After unplugging it a few times it stated working again but I can't trust it. I don't want to loose all the food in it if I don't catch it in time so I am going to disconnect it. Most refrigerators last for 10 years or more. This one did not. A big disappointment.

I just recently had my Frigidaire Model FRT045GB stop working AGAIN!
After having it about a year the fridge stopped working on me.Luckily I had bought it with an additional warranty from the store I bought it from LOEWS.

So a technician was sent to my residence and looked at the fridge and replaced the "Timer Box" and problem solved.

A little over a year pass after fridge was fixed the fridge STOPPED WORKING AGAIN!
The fridge was on the defrost cycle all the time,but now my extented warranty has expired from LOEWS and can't get this damn fridge tp be fixed for free.And how long will it last before it stops working again.So I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED with Frigidaire Model FRT045GB.

I'm going to try to find another "Timer Box" online to see if I can get it at a reasonable price and install it myself.If I dont find the part for a decent price this fridge will be garbage and I will NOT be buying another Frigidaire product ever again.

We bought this unit as a temporary replacement for our camper in 2010. Used it 2 summers and bought it home last fall. It worked fine until May when we noticed it quit running and all the food in it had spoiled. I pulled it away from the wall to inspect it and found a red residue all over the back of it and also on the wall and carpet. It appears to have blown a line and lost the coolant charge. Not sure if that can be fixed, but I'm going to have it checked. I would never recommend this unit to anyone.

I purchased a Frigidaire Compact refrigerator model #FRT045GB a little over a year ago.

It stopped working so I contacted Frigidaire's customer service. I was told first of all it is out of warranty and replacement parts are not available.

I expected a replacement refrigerator considering it cost less than $300. If Frigidaire had offered to replace it I would have remained a loyal customer.

As a result I will never purchase another Frigidaire product. Apparently their cost to replace it is more important than keeping customers.

My advice to everyone is DO NOT BUY Frigidaire products. Poor quality and poor customer service.
