Likes and Dislikes of our Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator (model ED2KHAXVQ01)

We bought our Whirlpool side by side refrigerator from Ultimate Electronics for $1299 June of 2010.


Likes:
  • Fridge side has adjustable easy to clean shelves/lots of room in Freezer
  • Ice is in a door bin so easy access to it

Dislikes:
  • Door is very hard to pull open-having to push it back against wall
  • Fridge side-small items fall off shelf above veg bin to behind veg bin drawers
  • Ice maker very noisy-in dumping ice & refilling (other than that it is quiet)
  • Things fall behind freezer bottom shelf behind the pull out drawer
  • Freezer door storage is very small
  • Ice maker dispenser ice falls out on floor sometimes after use.

All in all our Whirlpool side by refrigerator is an OK model. We had to buy a shorter side by side because of the kitchen cupboards above which only allowed us a few choices.

It does keep things evenly cold and it's pretty roomy for a small size fridge.

Fruit & vegetable bins stick, shelves in freezer small. Door does not stay open. Ice machine leaked and had to disconnect flooded kitchen & basement.Would not buy another whirlpool product.

Sorry to hear that Randy! It sucks when you don't get the quality in a product that you expect. I had bad luck with mine as well, but I called their customer service and luckily found someone who was willing to help me. Maybe you'll have the same kind of luck?

I purchased this Whirlpool refrigerator because of limited space in my kitchen. I find the vegetable bins do not roll in and out smoothly and food at the back of a shelf can easily fall down behind the shelves. My refrigerator is now only 2 years old and I have to replace the compressor. Needless to say, I am not happy with the performance of this model and would not purchase it again.

 compressor problem

Dislikes: This side by side refrigerator worked fine for almost 4 years. At the 4th year of ownership the compressor failed. I have read identical comments of others regarding compressor failures on their Whirlpool side by side refrigerator/freezer units. Hopefully Whirlpool has addressed this complaint and resolved it.
Fruit and vegetable bin construction is very weak. The rear part of a flange for a vegetable broke so that the drawer does not properly line up when sliding it.
Likes: The temperature is evenly cooled throughout the refrigerator and the freezer is very cold throughout.

Likes: The refrigerator keeps food very cold. The temperature seems to be even throughout the refrigerator unit. The freezer is very cold throughout as is expected.
Dislikes: The construction of the vegetable and fruit bin drawers is weak. The flange on the side of a bin drawer broke so the drawer no longer lines up properly in the channel. This occurred within 2 years of ownership.
At 4 years of ownership the compressor failed. I must replace that.
I purchased this side by side unit because of limited space. It fit my space requirements. I am amazed the a compressor should fail in a relatively new side by side refrigerator /freezer. . I have read about this complaint on other sites. I hope that Whirlpool has resolved this problem.

 Replacement Kickplate

Whirlpool recommends cleaning the coils regularly for maintaining efficiency.
The second time I removed the kickplate to clean the coils a plastic tab broke from the kickplate.
Since I only had the refrigerator for eight months it was still under warranty. I called for service and they sent me the wrong kickplate. I informed Whirlpool service and they arranged for a serviceman to come to my home with a new kickplate. He found that the kickplate that he brought was the same as the one that was sent to me and that they both did not fit.
Since then I have been sent two more of the wrong kickplate.
Whirlpool Said they would research the issue and get back to me.
I missed the return call and called them back at the phone number left on my answering machine. I spoke with the department supervisor who informed me that the research was complete and I was given the correct part and nothing else would be done for me. I was given no other options and told goodbye.
My original warranty has lapsed and I now use the refrigerator without a kickplate.
I purchased an extended warranty through The store I bought the refrigerator from. A salesman looked into the situation and found Whirlpool had changed the refrigerator's original design. The entire door including the kickplate has been redesigned and all of the original parts cannot be obtained.
I've had the refrigerator for about two years now and I have a new puppy. With the water feed line exposed he has easy access. he's now chewed a hole in the line and I'm afraid with the redesign I'll never find the proper replacement part.
STAY AWAY FROM WHIRLPOOL.
