Maytag Refrigerator Top Freezer (model #MTB19894ARW)

I have a Maytag refrigerator top freezer refrigerator and I can attest that before you buy another or your very first Maytag product inquire first if parts are available if the unit breaks down.
My Maytag top freezer frost free refrigerator is less than 5 years old when it started to accumulate ice/frost in the freezer section. (That's not really frost free now is it?)
I bought it August 2006. I just had a technician come out and it needs a new defrost heater but Whirlpool is no longer manufacturing the part for the model that I purchased. Huh? Whirlpool offered me 10% off if I buy a new Maytag
fridge.(For those of you who don't already know,
Whirlpool actually owns Maytag as well as many, many other brands of appliance makers.)
I declined the offer because I will never buy another Maytag appliance or any Whirlpool product again. I don't want to spend more money buying another refrigerator.
This fridge is less than 5 years old and its still working fine. All it needs is a part and it will be good to go for at least a few more years. It's kind of like buying a car that breaks down because a part got too worn and the car manufacturer (Toyota for instance) says,
"So sorry you spent all of that money on your car, but we decided to no longer make that part but we are happy to tell you that we will give you 10 whole % off of a new one!!Isn't that great news?!?!" While my fridge didn't cost me as much as a new car, it certainly cost a nice chuck of change, one that I don't just keep lying around the house.
It is beyond poor customer service to discontinue a product's parts in less than 5 years.
Who does business like that? Worst of all, how can they get away with it?Click here for more on Maytag Refrigerators
