Why Does Water Pool in the Bottom of my Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator?

Why does water pool at the bottom of my Kenmore top freezer refrigerator?
My seven year old, 21 cu. ft., Kenmore top mount freezer refrigerator has been doing this since June.
I suspect the drain line from freezer is plugged so water from the defrost is diverted to interior of fridge.
I don't know how the freezer defrost cycle works.
