A Maytag Refrigerator Recall was officially announced on August 25, 2009. Maytag said it will be recalling approximately 46,000 refrigerators under the Maytag, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand names, due to a fire hazard.
Apparently, there is the potential of an electrical failure in the device that turns on the compressor. Maytag corporate said that this issue could lead to a chance of overheating that could potentially create a fire.
This recall is an extension of the March recall where about 1.6 million similar refrigerators were recalled.
According to the Associated Press, Maytag, which is now part of Whirlpool Corp., said that since that last recall it has received 23 more reports of refrigerators catching fire. Of those reports, there were four incidents of property or smoke damage.
